1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Drowning In The Wake” and is there any meaning behind it?

The band was started by our guitarist “Austin” and the original drummer “Grant”. Both of whom attended the same high school in Junior/Senior years. The sound has always been a mix of Austin’s Nu metal/Alternative influence with touches of Hardcore and Rock Brought in with the newest members of the band. “Seth” our Drummer and “Sam” our Vocalist. After about a year of playing and developing a sound our drummer Grant left to play in another Omaha band, and we were forced to let go of our Vocalist due to personal issues.

As we moved forward with our new sound we are always trying different things and will continue to push ourselves in new ways. We all seasoned musicians. Our drummer and guitarist have been playing for 10 years plus. And our bass player ‘Brandon” was a guitar player for a long time in a previous band, as well our vocalist “Sam” is one to like his Karaoke ha-ha.

As for the name it came from a mix of two other ideas, one of which was “In the Wake” and the other was “Drowning” The name just sort of merged and we liked it. Side note- a name we almost choose was called “Attached to the Sky”.

2. What do you want listeners to take away from your "Dead" single?

"Dead" is about taking on all the inner demons you have, your fears, the pain built up inside you and standing against it, overcoming it and having the strength to walk away from it a better person.

3. What can people expect from your live show?

A fun time, good music, jokes from our bass player and a lot of bull shit and good times.

4. What's your favorite track to play live?

Austin – "Impostor". Which will be on our upcoming EP coming out soon.

Seth - "Mouseville" . A sound from the first EP "Annotations".

Sam – our new single "Dead" ha-ha.

Brandon - I don’t know.

5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

There’s a lot but if we have to pick three it would have to be: Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold and Born Of Osiris.

6. Any crazy show stories?

Some stages are really small… and one time our bass player made it to the show two minutes before we went on. Other than that we're pretty boring. That or we don’t pay too much attention LOL.

7. What’s your take on the current state of metal?

It’s always changing, mixing and evolving into new things. Some people bitch about what’s what and who’s better, when all we can say is you have to keep up and learn from all aspects of all kinds of music and bring that back to the sound you want.

8. What’s the current music scene like there in Iowa both locally and state wide?

We're from Council Bluffs IA. If you live here you would know we're on the very west side, 10 minutes from Omaha, Nebraska. That’s our so called "home" music scene. And it’s awesome, there’s tons of promoters and plenty of shows year round. As for Iowa we haven’t play much around there, but we have shows booked for this summer in Des Moines & Sioux City so we'll see what happens.

9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

It sucks yes, but it’s a double edged sword.

-Cons are you don’t get paid and we all know we need funds to keep our goals going.

-Pros are that if people are willing to steal your music and they like it enough to share it you’re getting exposure and that in its self will start to draw more attention to your band. The money will come with getting bigger.

10. What’s next for Drowning In The Wake?

Our summer mini tour, the release of our new EP, getting ready for more shows and having fun. Be sure to check us out.
