Misthaven (Rock) - Campobasso, Italy

MISTHAVEN is a five members band made up in Campobasso, a little town in the south of Italy. Their journey started early in 2014 when Eleonora (piano) and Tito (guitar) were talking around music preferences and they wondered why not to start writing music together. Afterwards, Francesca (vocals) joined the group, on Eleonora's call. Friends since childhood, they've already worked together, performing on local events covering Evanescence's songs. Finally, Alessandro A. (bass) and Alessandro I. (drums) joined the band, though the drummer left before everything became official.

Out of many different musical backgrounds, “Born Among The Ashes” is MISTHAVEN four tracks self produced demo cd, come as result of this first year of hard work, released on March 4th 2015. On July 1st the band was ready to release a second four tracks little record. “Bleed” is MISTHAVEN acoustic demo, full of classical and gothic influences. The band call itself critical to the local music scene and at least the Italian one, still too close to new different sounds and experiences, which brought them to open their eyes to the overseas music style, counting among their main influences many groups such as Evanescence, Alter Bridge, Halestorm.

After a few radios and magazines appearances, in December 2015 the band joined the From The Depths Entertainment roster, ready to start a new adventure.

"Born Among The Ashes" EP Review:
The female fronted rock genre have had bands such as Evanescence, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil and Halestorm to name a few in recent time. Italy based Misthaven have a catchy alternative rock sound that will charm fans of the genre for a long time to come in this four track demo EP. "Yesterday" kicks off the EP with a piano driven track which knows how to start things off right. The symphonic rock sound is reminiscent of Evanescence back in their prime. The vocals are outstanding and the track is an incredible way to kick off the EP."Won't Look Back" is a tremendous rock track. The track has single written all over it and shows a tremendous amount of passion. "Light Of A Prayer" slows things down and is a more intimate track. The track brings to mind "My Immortal" as it pulls at the emotional strings of the listener in all the right ways. The EP closes out with the epic track "Newborn". The track takes the listener on an incredible journey of sound that is rarely seen in the rock world nowadays. The track screams for a music video as it transcends into a different realm of sound. Awesome closer to a fantastic demo EP.

Misthaven have got what it takes to be in the same echelon as Halestorm. Fans of female fronted rock have a new band to look out for in Misthaven.

-Interview- (12/11/16)
1. Your "Newborn" single has been out for a little while now. What do you want listeners to take away from it?

Yes, it's been a few time, thanks to Valkyrie Rising label. Well, as always said, the main aim is to write a kind of music people can link to their own experiences. "Newborn" looks like the darkest track we've written, but it is just a facade. "I thought you came back to take my hand / but I saw myself illuminating the dark / rising from your shadow that imprisoned my whole life", it says. That's what we want listeners to take away from it: the awareness of owning the power to rise under the worst circumstances even when you're left alone.

2. Has there been any discussion regarding a music video for any singles? If so, which track?

Not really. Maybe in the future.

3. What was the inspiration for the cover art and who designed it?

Funny one. It was thought of and designed by our handyman Eleonora! A cover art is like a calling card, it has to be totally representative of the song. "Newborn" is the Phoenix, the emblem of rising from our own ashes. Without darkness there's no chance of seeing the light, and life is not only black and white. Name and title come out as a rainbow from a black background, that's how rebirth works.

4. What's your favorite track to play live?

Hard to pick one, songs are like children and you have no favorite child. We have fun playing our own music!

5. What artists are you currently listening to? Any acts you recommend that people should check out?

Well, the same old ones for sure. Evanescence as always, still waiting for Halestorm's new album to come out, the new Alter Bridge, love the ballads. What to say..Adele! Her "25" album is the deepest one, we love "All I Ask". We also covered it! Icon For Hire, really far from our own style, but they're great. And what a surprise, Sia, she's the best pop artist music industry can sell to you.

6. What was the last concert you went to as a fan?

Local band, I suppose.

7. As an artist, what's your take on the streaming sites (Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, etc.) and how they pay royalties to bands?

Hard to answer as our label (Valkyrie Rising) handles it all for us. As an artist, streaming sites are a great resource to get listeners to know our music, through links and suggestions. It's the evolution of the industry, it's not that bad for those who grew up during the Internet era.

8. What is the local music scene like there in Italy?

If the idea of music isn't gonna change, we're not gonna change our mind about being so critical of Italy's music scene. The country's so close to new music sceneries, that radio still only accepts the same kind of songs and we end up listening to each one almost ten times a day. People are not used to listening to a music genre that is a bit different than the others, and the music scene isn't helping changing their minds. It is really hard for a new band to get people to know them over here. That's why we're constantly looking overseas.

9. What's next for Misthaven?

Constantly working. New music is coming, stay tuned!

10. What do you want to achieve in the next year?

A brand new debut album, singles, and videos. We're kinda ambitious.

Interview (12/10/15):
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Misthaven” and is there any meaning behind it?

Everything happened by chance. Eleonora (keyboards) and Tito (guitar) were talking around music preferences, so they wondered why not to start writing music together. But the songwriting was not enough: music needs to be played, so Francesca (voice) and Alessandro (bass) joined the band. It was really hard to pick a name for the group, something that could represent our idea of music. We worked on it all together. “Misthaven” comes out from the combination of two words “mist” and “haven”, which means a shelter in the fog. That's what music is: our shelter from the chaos which is all around us.

2. What do you want listeners to take away from your acoustic "Bleed" EP?

Dave Grohl once said “that's one of the great things about music. You sing a song to 85,000 people and they'll sing it back for 85,000 different reasons”. That's what we want listeners to take away from our “Bleed” EP: their emotions, their experiences, their feelings. Music has the meaning the listener gives to it.

3. What can people expect from your live show?

We're just people and we're going to take stage as people with one main aim: let the audience feel every heartbeat we experience at every note we play.

4. What's your favorite track to play live?

There's no favorite track. Every song has its story and its reasons to be performed live.

5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Hard to choose just three..Evanescence, Halestorm and Alter Bridge!

6. Any crazy show stories?

Yet to come..

7. What’s your take on the current state of rock?

Who said "Rock is dead"? In a recent interview Gene Simmons declared he is sorry for young guitarists, who can only aspire to play in some talent shows as Rock has been killed. We don't think so. It's maybe that old school Rock retired, giving way to a new style with new features, but Rock is definitely not dead. Rock developed and it's fully alive..and we dare say, it's going to be run by women!

8. What’s the current music scene like there in Italy both locally and country wide?

Well, it's hard to define a real local music scene, as we come out from a really little country, which shows really a few unpublished bands. We definitely don't have a real music scene over here. Talking about Italy country wide, we call ourselves so critical about the national music scene: Italy appears to be really far from being open to music styles and genres which are different from its standards. There are a lot of Alternative bands spread around the country, but it's really hard for them to get the chance to emerge.

9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

You know, nowadays the illegal music downloading gives everyone the chance to listen to a big amount of music they wouldn't have get interested in if they had to buy it. But as a band we need to specify the legal downloading is what makes music a real job. So people, it's okay to illegally download music, but at least buy the stuff you like! Your idols will appreciate it!

10. What’s next for Misthaven?

First of all, we're so excited to have joined the From The Depths roster and we can't wait to start our journey with this record label! Then, we're focusing on practicing for the next live shows and writing new songs for the upcoming debut album. Hard work on its way!

11. Any shoutouts?

Keep supporting Misthaven! We need you!
