The Big Shiny Maple band really started without knowing, when signer and guitar player Chase Cote and drummer Louis St-Amand jammed back in 2018, with some guys and friends for fun, the two really "clicked" Musically. Simon Clowes was the one responsible for having them two meet in late 2017. In early 2018 Chase and Louis stayed in touch and went on to look for a bass player to complete their 3-piece band they were trying to achieve at that time. Denis Michaud a well-known solid bass player from Grand Falls was added to complete the 3-piece rock cover band named Big Shiny Maple. Covering grunge and alternative rock bands from the 90’s and 2000’s. After experiencing with all the rock and grunge rock / Alternative styles sound these 3 loved, these 3 found out soon enough that many bands and songs were possible to be covered and " fitted " the group well with Chase’s powerhouse voice and dynamics, that made most of this music enormous range possible. Many cover songs they played then were actually rock songs from the Much Music Albums ( Big Shiny Tunes ). The name Big Shiny Maple was born towards these albums names , song choices and adding Maple to show their Canadian roots and proudness in the mix… The 3 pieces later added Shaun Rioux in mid June 2018 a gear head well composed guitar player into the mix for a lead guitar position while Chase played rhythm and kept at vocals. A couple weeks after, the 4 pieces band played a “Battle of The Bands” took home second place, witch was actually they’re first ever exposure as a band of 4 ...As the band grew into maturity of knowing each other musically better and better , all 4 members decided to add another rhythm guitar player , someone else without compromising the band's natural connection and dynamic style . Simon Clowes being the initial and only choice requested by the 4 members was the only right fit. For his music abilities, experience and music knowledge was an easy choice in order to proceed the bands progression and writing abilities. Since 2020 BSM is a 5 pieces band and currently has completed a independent 4 song EP / Demo (April 2022) and still as of today writing originals to complete a full length independent album in the very near future .

-Interview- (1/6/23)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Big Shiny Maple" and is there any meaning behind it?

We had all been playing for years separately and have always listened to Grunge type music with some harder Rock in there as well, which probably helped us develop our own trust in it. We used to love “ big shiny tunes” and again put our own twist on it.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

We just want people to take out of it what they want. If it helps someone through a tough time or just makes ya feel good and smile, as long as ya feel something.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

We are a Grunge/Hard Rock sounding band.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

We would love to tour with the Foo Fighters, Big Wreck, or the Motor League.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

Covid kept us off the stage but put us in the studio so we did the best we could off a bad situation.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?

Rock is alive and well, if you don’t believe us, come to one of our shows.

7. What's the current music scene like there in Canada?

In our part of Canada there are some good local bands but it would be nice to have more places to play.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

No idea really, we haven’t got that far yet.

9. What’s next for Big Shiny Maple?

Hopefully this winter season we can get some more recordings and maybe look at a small tour with a bigger band this summer hopefully.

10. Any shoutouts?

Big shout out to Rob Parish for the help recording, David Raines for help behind the scenes, and friends and family, but most importantly the fans, we wouldn’t be here without them and it definitely keeps us going.
