Dargor

Dargor (Melodic Black Metal) - Poland

"Dargor" is the black metal project founded in Krosno (Poland) by Michał Kustra. It's mostly inspired by bands like Samael, Ajattara, Dimmu Borgir and Summoning but you can find also other musical influences here. The first EP "Descent Into Chaos" contains seven songs. All tracks are focused around the melodic, atmospheric but still aggressive black metal. Lyrics are mostly about mental pain, the process of inner descent, nihilism and the dark sides of human nature.

-Interview (4/14/21)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Dargor" and is there any meaning behind it?

Hi everyone! When I started listening to metal music (as a teenager) and heard the bands playing in my hometown I just knew I want to do it myself. I've been playing in a couple of heavy, thrash and black metal bands. The sound and style were developing all that time. Some time ago I decided to create "Dargor" - my own music project where I can compose songs fitting my music taste in one hundred percent. When it comes to the name, "Dargor" was my nick in my previous bands. I took it from the lyrics of Rhapsody - the first metal group I was into. It was the name of the bad guy from their fictional story.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

I would most like the people to experience the atmosphere and get the energy from our songs. To hear some nice melodies which they can remember and feel the power that makes them want to headbang. Our lyrics are about the process of the inner descent, dark sides of human nature and wondering about the sense of it all. It would be great if we make people have some interesting thoughts and reflections.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

We play melodic black metal. Our sound is cold, atmospheric but still aggressive. You can also find some groove and catchy rhythms in it. If you like the heavy music with space and melody, check it out!

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

I'd most like to tour with bands that play melodic, symphonic or atmospheric black metal. Any bands that play it with passion and involvement would be great to play with. But... my dream top three would be: Dimmu Borgir, Samael and Vesania.

5. How has Covid affected what you do as a band?

We can't play any live shows which sucks. At least, we can compose, play rehearsals and record the new music. For now, we focus only on that but it makes us happy too.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?

For sure it's less popular than 10 or 20 years ago. But still, it has many fans and I think it will never die. Who knows... Maybe one day it will become more popular once again, at least like it was in the late 90s and early 2000s.

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Poland?

There are still many great Polish bands. Not only the most known ones like Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated or Mgła. There are many other groups known only in Poland which make awesome music and kick ass. Before the Covid pandemic, there were many occasions to go into the clubs and listen to great music.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

We're just starting the band and doing it mostly for fun. If we would earn a beer or two from streaming we would be happy. When it comes to the professional bands... I think it's not good for them. Even from hundreds of thousands of plays they earn very little.

9. What’s next for Dargor?

We'll focus on creating the new EP. The five new author songs are already composed, we slowly start to play them on rehearsals. We have incorporated the new member, Dawid Warchoł who plays on the keyboard. We also prepare to play some live shows after the situation gets better and restrictions are gone.

10. Any shoutouts?

Greetings to all people who are reading this interview! Have a nice day and stay true to your passions!
