Halfpace is an Alternative Rock band from Erie, Pennsylvania. Our EP “Bliss” is out and streaming on all platforms now.
"Hand to Hold" Single Review
The track begins with a more Post Hardcore/Glory of This like blast of riffs and melody. The pacing steadies itself as the first verse brings the passion and emotion. The chorus mixes with the crunchy instrumentation perfectly and the vocal range is top notch. The second verse adds a bit of depth with a bit more speed in its tempo. The two minute mark dips a bit but then unleashes a guitar solo that takes the track to greater heights to close things out.
Verdict:
Halfpace's newest single is straight to the point with their infectious signature style.
-Interview- (6/19/22)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Halfpace" and is there any meaning behind it?
We got started after the major lockdown from Covid. We wanted to start up a different sounding band than the usual “pop punk” or “emo” music that’s been flooding the scene. The Drummer Anthony thought of the of the name, there’s no meaning behind it he just thought it sounded cool. And we just wanted to play music. So we were like yeah that’s cool, let’s get to the music now!
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
We want people to find that feeling of knowing other people care and can relate to them. And with Covid the past few years, just give people something to look forward too, and keep spirits up.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
We sound like a blend of my chemical romance and the foo fighters. Melodic guitars and hard driven Drums.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Title Fight, The Used, and Citizen would all be awesome!
5. How has Covid affected what you do?
If Covid didn’t happen we probably wouldn’t have been a band. We got together because we wanted to try some new things and some of the guys in the band were at a stopping point with their other band because of covid. So really looking back it’s one of the small lights in the darkness that is Covid.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?
Rock never dies man! Everyday you see younger generations getting into bands like Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Zeppelin, etc. Rock is alive and well!
7. What’s the current music scene like locally there in Pennsylvania?
In Erie PA, it’s starting to lighten back up again. There are great bands we have the privilege of playing with and great promoters putting on great shows. The future is looking good!
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Times have changed since the 90s and even the late 2000s/early 2010s. Bands aren’t making any money off of royalties and it’s definitely sad but it’s the nature of the beast. Streaming services are great for exposure and ease of listening but that’s about it. Unfortunately the average touring band is only going to make money from merch sales. And that’s a very sad thing.
9. What's next for Halfpace?
We’re going to record some more songs in the middle of July 2022 and keep chugging along! We are very driven and can’t wait to keep showing the world what we have to offer!
10. Any shoutouts?
All the local Erie bands we play with on a regular basis (Fastfall, Real Fake Doors, Grim Grin) and the promoters Heal Heat productions, Dread Metal Productions, and Bobby Jensen from the all ages venue we grew up going to, Basement Transmissions, for always giving the most support and always believing in us! And most importantly our listeners, fans, and our friends and family! We couldn’t do the things we’ve done with them and their support!
