Sounds like: Metalcore
From: Texas
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Ashtray For Aliens" come about and is there any meaning to it?
We started playing music as a band in 2023 because our guitarist Angel De La Rosa got everyone together. From very early on Angel had a vision of recreating the classic Crabcore genre of Metalcore. However we had issues with the sound we were striving for early on because we could not find a solid drummer who could play the parts. So we struggled a little bit to find out sound. It wasn’t until we acquired our drummer Cameron Broussard that we were able to shape our sound to what it is now. He was able to tackle all the difficult drum parts that our previous drummers couldn’t do. When Angel started this band, we were originally called “Set The Skyline.” It wasn’t until we acquired our front man Jadon Yarbrough when the name change was suggested by him. At the end Jadon was the one who came up with “Ashtray For Aliens.” In the words of Jadon “I came up with the name from an acid trip I had with friends where we drank this alien bottle liquor, then used the alien head as our ashtray for the remainder of the night.”
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
We want people to feel like they’re not alone. Our music is loud, chaotic, and emotional because life can be that way too. If someone can scream along with us and feel even a little more understood or empowered, then we’ve done our job.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
We are trying to bring the nostalgia of Crabcore back. We draw major influences from guys like Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack, and I See Stars.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
The band that we are all inching to go on tour with is Asking Alexandria. After all, you can hear the major influence they had on us through our music. Other amazing acts we would love to play with are Oceans Ate Alaska, and Dance Gavin Dance.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
We feel like it can be fun in certain areas like parodies, or something like that. We definitely don’t think AI could ever replace true artistry.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Metalcore?
We think it’s great! Metalcore is evolving into this huge spectrum of music. Bands are taking traditional metalcore and turning it into art for everyone to enjoy.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Texas?
We are from Port Arthur Texas, the south east. The music scene out here is very big and super supportive of everyone. You could play your very first show down here and you’ll definitely get a crowd of supportive people who just want to see you succeed.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
We think it could be better. We understand that streaming services is more convenient for listeners over physical copies of music. However it’s definitely taking a tool on the artists.
9. What’s next for Ashtray For Aliens?
Well we are getting ready to schedule our debut EP titled “Symptoms Of Sanity.” And we are looking forward to hitting the road.
10. Any shoutouts?
We want to shout out all of South East Texas for the incredible support they have given us and believing in us.
