Sounds like: Metal

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Severed Sun” and is there any meaning behind it?

Well most of us have been into music since we were teenagers and it just developed more and more as time went on. I know for me Rod (Vocals), I remember being in a friends care rocking out to some Metallica and Overkill back in the day and singing along and the guys looking at me and asking if I had ever thought about singing. They were putting a band together so being the teen that I was, I was like "hell yea lets do it!". The rest is history. Severed Suns sound is a collaboration between four musicians that have had different influences through the years and they all just kind get thrown in the pot like your favorite stew that you eat for days at a time because its so damn good and keeps getting better each and every time.
The band name, we wish we had a better story for this one like because we saw this fucking crack in the sky and the sun crossed in front of it and left us with such an awe that we said it looked like a severed sun but well it's not like that at all. Actually the original drummer came up with it plainly because he thought it sounded cool.

2. What do you want listeners to take away from your "Devil In A Cadillac" single?

Listen to it. It's all about what they want you to believe in that going to a metal show is going to corrupt you soul. Ah fuck that! It's all about the devil inside and having a little fun. We all have that eager playful side. So it's a song about getting your friends together and going to a show and having one hell of a time!

3. What can people expect from your live show?

We are what we are and nothing more then 4 guys who love the music and will leave everything out on the stage. It's honest, non cliche', hard rockin' metal. We keep it pretty real and so far have not disappointed anyone, to our knowledge anyway. Most places we have played have really liked our music.

4. What's your favorite track to play live?

"Devil In A Cadillac", "Home Again" and a newer one "Codependent Blues". There are even more new ones on the way so who knows.

5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Black Label Society, Anthrax and Iced Earth. And if we were really lucky to play something huge like with Ozzy/Ozzfest, Metallica, Megadeth or Dream Theater.

6. Any crazy show stories?

There have been a few crazy stories but trying to remember the details becomes a little blurry...lmao.

7. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?

Well first and foremost, Metal never dies or goes away. There are so many variations. Some of the new stuff is not my thing but to each their own. We respect the fact that they are doing it because it's not easy and all metal bands should help one another. After all we are all metal brothers and sisters!

8. What’s the current music scene like there in Florida both locally and state wide?

Florida has a pretty decent music scene that could use even more venues but there are a lot of great bands statewide.

9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

Well legal downloading is the new norm. I mean album sales have been hit hard as far as physical media but the internet have mostly have adapted digitally. Illegal downloading though, man your stealing somebody else's food right out of their mouths. I mean hell, how would like it if somebody came to your place of employment and started stealing all your work or taking your means of making a living. Not cool at all!

10. What’s next for Severed Sun?

We go into the studio real soon if everything works out right. Then we'll be looking to go out and play for the people of Florida and hopefully the world sooner or later.
