Sounds like: Progressive Metal

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Hydra” and is there any meaning behind it?

We started playing together for fun and we have ended up being a stable band from two years now. As for the sound the journey starts way back in 2013 with a very powerful grungy style of playing that later on we abandoned preferring more heavy sounds and progressive atmospheres that in time have developed giving us the sound that we endorse nowadays. Progressive metal with ambient and djent influences. The name was an idea that came up to Andrea and we decided to keep it. It comes from the Hydra of Lerna described in Greek Mythology.

2. What do you want listeners to take away from your "Inner Circle" single? What's the word on new music?

We want the listeners to be captured and hold tight to a train of emotions. The song itself talks about personality disorders so we want our audience to learn what goes on in the mind of a troubled person. Aside from the meaningful lyrics in our music we want the people to enjoy a new style of progressive music where you can find strange rhythmical sessions alongside powerful choruses full of melody and of course various elements of many musical genres such as polyrhythms, ambient atmospheres and all sorts of things.

3. What can people expect from your live show?

People that comes to our live shows can expect a great set of solid progressive metal songs, emotions and of course a lot of energy. In addition to a great variety of sounds created to express all the different sensations that our music aims to give to the audience. Great songs, powerful sounds and of course professionalism is what people can expect from our shows.

4. What's your favorite track to play live?

Probably our new song "Pandemic". It's a mix of classic progressive metal and our newly discovered djent influences. This song offers also a large selection of all our combinations with a large ambient section at the end of the song.

5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Probably we'd like to tour with Dream Theater, Steven Wilson, and many others such as one of Devin Townsend's projects. They are all extremely good!

6. Any crazy show stories?

Well, once we were playing at one of the most important Harley Davidson's meetings and it was crazy to see all the bikers go crazy when we played a classic song from Motorhead's "Rock'n'Roll" album that we decided to include in our schedule just for them!

7. What’s your take on the current state of metal?

The Metal scene is so vast and it's difficult to judge everything in an interview so maybe we'll try to talk about what we consider to be our scene, the progressive one. So in a few words we can say that every year there are new sounds and new styles of interpreting what nowadays is one of the biggest trends. With names such as Steven Wilson, everything is evolving at a very fast rate and we hope to be part of this "chaos in motion".

8. What’s the current music scene like there in Italy both locally and country wide?

In Italy we have a solid Power Metal scene, and a great evolving Death Metal one. Our country is full of great bands known to the world, like Rhapsody of Fire and Lacuna Coil. Here in Rome we have a lot of great bands, to name a few Gandalf's Project, Neverhush, Sailing to Nowhere and Acid Muffin!

9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

Download is the future of music, but we think that everyone has to take music more seriously. You can't go to the supermarket and take whatever you want to try out and then decide to buy it later on. It's all based on respect. The fans need to respect the musicians. Personally we try to have low prices, and leave the decision to the people to make an offer. It's only to promote our music faster, and it will last only a few months.

10. What’s next for Hydra?

We're starting this journey with From the Depths Entertainment and we're releasing our video for "Inner Circle". In the near future we want to produce an album that we are currently writing and we hope to launch it with a tour maybe, so we have plenty of things to do in order to achieve all our plans!

11. Any shoutouts?

People! Be ready to live this adventure with us whether it lasts for a song or for an entire lifetime!
