Sounds like: Metal
From: Idaho
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "DeadLynk" come about and is there any meaning to it?
I originally started music in mid high school, i was a drummer for my original band 'I, Fear'. I, Fear had a really hard time finding committed members because we were all teenagers finding out what we really wanted to do, but i knew drumming was 100% what i wanted when my late father left me his drum kit.
The original idea for the name "DeadLynk" was to resemble that missing link in life, for people who felt lost, or unable to attune to their feelings, i aimed to help that with music, but with a twist. I originally wanted to try to express emotions through metal, but i also wanted to be different and stand out, become unique. Our vocalist, Danny Villarreal agreed to a feature on my compilation album 'THE FACELESS REDUX', which is redux of my instrumental album, under the same name. His vocals and style matched DeadLynk like no one else could, he fit every vision I had for this project, i knew i had to pick him up.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Don't be afraid to have fun and try new things, especially with music. Don't be pressured to sound like every big and popular band right now, leave a legacy by making music that sounds like how you want it to sound. Stand out, be unique and have fun!
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Extreme Metal that likes to experiment with different styles and sounds, that refuses to be shackled to one sound and only one sound.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Chelsea Grin, Aborted and Disembodied Tyrant. Chelsea Grin and Aborted were my most influential artists to even start making music, Disembodied Tyrant inspired me to become more experimental with our sound.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
I do not support it, and highly advise against it. You didn't make it, a computer did. It's the same as giving a band ideas for a song and labelling it as yours, saying you made it. It lacks so much soul and heart.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?
The current state of metal is quickly becoming stale, with certain bands sounding very similar to one another. I'm not saying it's bad by any means, i personally like a lot of very mainstream metal bands. It's not entirely their fault, to remain big in the scene, you have to follow trends that made other bands popular in the first place, or you run the risk of fading into obscurity.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Idaho?
My local scene in Idaho is full of trap, country and the fusions of those 2 with the addition of rock.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Artists are getting scammed by these streaming services, especially with Spotify paying way less than half a cent per stream. A lot of these distribution services costing money to upload, it's hard to make the cost of the subscription back, even more difficult to double that cost back.
9. What’s next for DeadLynk?
We don't plan on slowing down, we have a new single and new album, and other super exciting announcements on Friday the 23rd. Follow our socials to stay up to date! DeadLynk on all platforms!
10. Any shoutouts?
I have a few. One of my best friends Nick, he's in an amazing metalcore band that's also experimenting with sounds. Check out his band MindBreak. Colby Broku Bell, he's a really close friend of mine, he's been helping DeadLynk in every way he can and i couldn't be more thankful for him and our friendship. Dustin Henson, the vocalist of Flesh of The Lotus for being such a down to earth and easy going friend. And lastly, my mother and my father for getting me into the music i'm into, without them i would've never started music.
