1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Zyfus" come about and is there any meaning to it?
It started with the guitarist, vocalist and drummer only playing originals, heavily influenced by 90s Rock/Grunge Rock. The sound followed that full on energy that comes with Grunge.
One of our favorite bands back in the day was Kyuss, we used a Z instead added a F for an accent in the name when saying it. Zyfus. The meaning of Zyfus is the form of our subconscious, the choices that are made, impulse decisions that somehow turn out right, or the lost of that control, the demon or the angel. The Spirit that has our back watching over us.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
The stories, the energy, the leads, and the sound.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Grunge Rock. Multiple dimensions to cover a lot of different ears. But Rock none the less
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Any band, we have supported all styles of music and enjoy encouraging others to move forward as well. Who wouldn’t want to tour with the Foo Fighters. In reality, we will tour with anyone.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
Don’t like it, won't endorse it, put a lot of effort into writing and developing a sound that’s as unique and molding that with other like minded souls. AI music should be banned.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?
Where has all the leads gone? Structures for commercial Rock music are so short now that the big long lead breaks are long gone. Bring the leads back to Rock music.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in New Zealand?
There's a big scene here and our style is very eclectic. We lack people here for heaps of big shows but we make up for it in energy.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Great roll on that makes us all money. In a world where you don’t have to have a contract with a record label to be heard around the world, that’s great for self producers.

Tour of Tokyo.
