Sounds like: lofi Rock
From: North Carolina
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "Baked Wizard" come about and is there any meaning to it?
Well we started playing music as young teenagers during school. We've gone through a few different variations of the band but now we have settled with 4 band mates. The name Bakedwizard came about when we were at Carter's(our lead singer) house watching TV. We were watching this cartoon called regular show and in it there was an evil wizard and his eyes were red. So we all collectively said he's baked and we thought it was funny and it just stuck.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Just something for people to chill and have good time and let out any emotions they are feeling.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
We have always struggled with describing our sound but with what we have put out now we like to say lofi/punk rock. We also have be diving into a more heavy sound and would like to incorporate more metal aspect to our music.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
We would want to tour with Sleep, Teensuicide, and Acidbath.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
We disagree with the use of AI in any form of art. We think it takes away from the authenticity we also don't really like with AI generated Art. We think art should come from a person with feelings and emotions.
6. What’s your take on the current state of lofi Rock?
We think lofi rock is still pretty popular with bands like car seat headrest and currents joys and teensuicide. But we want to use the inspirations we have got from lofi rock to make our unique sound.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in North Carolina?
The music scene in North Carolina is kind of dry depending on where you live. We are located in Bakersville in the mountains of North Carolina where there's not a lot of venues, but if you live near bigger cities and bigger towns the music scene is a little better. I will say my favorite venues are the more bar style venues. I feel like those shows feel more energetic and you don't have to spend a fortune just to go see live music. The PNC venue in charlotte is so over price in every category in my opinion.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
We think that most of the royalties that streaming services pay out are ridiculous. But we like being able to have music up where everyone can listen to it everywhere.
9. What’s next for Baked Wizard?
We are working on recording new music which will give a more darker sound with more variety and experimenting with different instruments.
10. Any shoutouts?
I would like to shout out our producer of our first album (Kevin Dolan) from shake rag records. And mickey for driving us around for shows and practices.
