Sounds like: Progressive Metal
From: New York
1. What's new with Promachina?
After a year and a half, we parted ways with John Murch Jr as he moves on to join another local band called WarCrawl. We’re very happy for him and wish him the best of luck. Meanwhile, we picked up Adam Candela on drums and he jumped right into the mix full force! He’s been working hard to learn all our songs and has been NAILING them! We’re super excited to get back on stage and unleash his talent!
We just got interviewed by a local magazine out of Buffalo, NY called Cryonic Punk. They are a fantastic group of people that work hard to promote local artists and are doing wonderful things for the music scene! They’re run by Jamie Brooks and we are honored to be a part of their September issue! We’ll be joining them for their first festival on October 25th as well (Lives Lost at Montage Music Hall).
In the meantime, we’re working hard to get our album all done and hopefully released soon. We’re working on releasing more behind the scenes videos and interviews with the band members as well as some other fun videos and play throughs. We have another photo shoot scheduled and we’re starting to talk music video! We’ve got a lot going on, so make sure to check us out on:

2. How's the new music coming along and is there a release date for it?
Seth - Oh it's coming and even if it's just released it's still coming. The faucet never turns off. Mixing of the first album is moving if it’s not already released by the time you're reading this.
Todd - I have so many riffs just waiting to be turned into something cool.
Adam C - I'm very excited for the new album to come out but even more excited to be a bigger part of the writing process for the next batch.
3. What can you tell us about inspiration for the new music?
Seth- Inspiration is everywhere: shiny new guitars, bandmates, a great concert, nostalgia, or local bands can all trigger the next fun riff or melody.
Jamie - Seth typically starts the writing process off then we get together and really compose the piece. There’s a lot of back and forth regarding what Seth was thinking vs where the song feels like it needs to go or what feels like it’s missing. After hours of work, there’s typically a fully written song that just needs some minor adjustments and feedback from the rest of the band. Adam P writes the lyrics and tada, there’s a completed song. But we have more ideas to come and the writing process will change. The entire band will become more involved in the entire process and there is talk of a themed album in the works!
4. What have you been listening to lately?
Jamie - I’ve been listening to a lot of Periphery lately. I love their off timing and tend to listen to bands that challenge my abilities a little further. These guys definitely do that!
Todd - All sorts of music. When I’m at work I typically go with some classical guitar (usually John Oeth, he’s incredible). Some bands that are in the usual rotation: Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, Trivium, Coheed and Cambria, Killswitch Engage.
Seth - The usual circuit of Dream Theater, Periphery, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Trivium etc. As of sharing this, I have really been enjoying Caligula’s Horse and Opeth.
Adam C - As usual I'm all over the place, Better Lovers, Dying Wish, Upon a Burning Body, Beatles, Wu-Tang, Mac Miller, Periphery, Animals as Leaders, Odesza, Polo & Pan.
Adam P- I’m always listening to Megadeth, Gwar, and Sepultura. But lately I’ve been really into Obituary and At The Gates.
5. Do you have any pre-show rituals before performing?
Jamie.- I typically start drinking my coffee about 30 min prior to going on stage, then you’ll find me jumping around to get the blood flowing and doing neck rolls to make sure I don’t strain anything when I start letting my hair fly on stage.
Todd - Deep-knee rock squats.
Seth - A good stretch and a couple pre-show djents to get acclimated to the guitar.
Adam C - Stretching for sure and lots of water!
Adam P- vocal warm ups, and moving around to stay warm and ready to rock!
6. What's one thing you'd change about the local music scene?
Jamie - having more bands promote each other. I try to lead by example. You’ll find me taking photos and videos of all the bands we play with. Then I post and tag all of the bands on social media, making sure to say something positive about all of their performances. I wish more bands would take photos and videos of us and post them as well!
7. What's your favorite show that you've played and why?
Jamie - I think our first show at Montage Music Hall was my favorite. The crowd was electric and pulled out their phones with their lights on waving them in the air along with our song. The pit was fantastic! And our singer, Adam P, was diving into the crowd to mosh and sing at the same time the entire show! I felt like every minute or so he was running back up on stage behind me just to do it again! It was a fantastic start for us and really set the pace for what was to come.
Seth - The Bunny The Bear show was up there. Another great crowd I felt the band had a great tone, setup was fast, and the performance was tight.
Todd - The show earlier this year out in Niagara Falls was fantastic. The crowd was into the music and all of the other bands were incredible. It was also our first foray into using in-ear monitors and being able to properly hear everything was great.
Adam C - So far I've only played one at Evening Star in Niagara Falls but it was excellent, the crowd was really into it, lots of moshing and everyone nodding their heads.
Adam P- Opening up for Heathen was a huge honor, and any show at photo city music hall is a blast!
8. Any plans for any new music videos?
Jamie - We’ve definitely been talking about this. We are focusing on getting the album out first, then this will be the next focus for us!
9. What do you wish to accomplish for the rest of the year?
Jamie - trying to get more gigs in Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany area. We are working hard to expand our fan base and are trying to pull bigger numbers to shows. We love the crowd and want to have more attendance to our shows so we can do fun things like the wall of death!
Seth - I am looking forward to the next chapter of the band with Adam C on drums and we have a clear understanding of who we are sonically. I am really happy and proud of the music that has been compiled over the years, but like Pokemon we are gaining exp., leveling up, and grinding in the tall grass; it is time for the evolution.
Todd - Now that our first album is nearing completion, I think we’re truly beginning to find “our sound”. Moving forward after the album with all of the knowledge that we’ve gained from the process is going to be awesome.
