From: Alabama
Sounds like: Indie Rock
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound?
All 4 of us were in band at the same high school. We had a bit of a falling out over stupid stuff, and after making up we wrote a song about it called "Tactical Vans".
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Ideally not a headache. Hopefully people can relate and love their friends!! That's what I take away from it at least.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Usually we call call our music "Dreamy Indie Rock", but we're working on coming up with something more unique sounding.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Oooo, probably Twenty One Pilots, our buds Milky White, and specifically for our drummer I'm gonna say whatever team made the music for Terraria.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
I think it's super frustrating to see the success being had with some songs that are entirely AI considering how Spotify and other services treat actual artists.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Indie Rock?
There's definitely been a culture shift away from Indie Pop/Indie Rock in the last couple of years. It really hit peak popularity (that I remember at least) during 2020-2021, which definitely influenced our sound when we did start writing. Indie rock is also a very very wide category though so it's hard to say, i think that's why we're trying to come up with a sillier term to describe our sound.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Alabama?
It's small but everybody's so nice! We're from Gadsden where they have small shows pretty regularly, but if you go out to like Birmingham or Auburn a tonnn of local people start pulling up. Auburn has this big ole twice a year festival called Aubfest where like every college student goes and camps it's beautiful.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
I kind of forget that it's there most of the time. I wanna say we've made a whopping $28 since our first song released, which is honestly almost enough to renew DistroKid so I'll take it.
9. What’s next for Comic Mischief?
Right now we're working on solo recording our first full length LP, It's coming along real nice! Hopefully it should be seen by the world next year, but until then we'll keep playing new songs at new shows in new places!
10. Any shoutouts?
Once again our best buds Milky White, then Juvenoia, Sam & The Big Boys, Lighthouse, and Bitter Calm. All lovely bands made up of lovely people from the towns nearby :)
