From: Colorado
Sounds like: Hard Rock

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound?

Each of us came from a different background in terms of inspiration and how we each got started. Phil has been in the music scene for some time, drawing his inspiration from industrial metal bands like Fear Factory, and Ministry which is how he developed his mechanical drumming skills. Gage began guitar at a young age and drew inspiration from Randy Rhodes, Tony Iommi, and family. Ash got her start from nu metal bands like Korn, Snot, and System of a Down. Together, we combined our talents and inspiration to form something new.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

We want to inspire people to make their own unique music themselves. We believe that music is expression in its fullest form and that others should be able to get inspiration to be their own musician.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Our sound fits into the 'Hard Rock' category. We definitely have our own unique take on rock but we don't fit neatly into Metal or Heavy Metal. We've been compared to other bands such as Tool, Alice in Chains, or Evanescence.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Clutch, Korn, and Coal Chamber.

5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?

AI music is lazy and is stealing from the people who took the time to pick up an instrument, form a band, and practice. It's the epitome of having no talent.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?

More than ever are new bands with unique sounds emerging and it's exciting to see new artists pick up the traction that they deserve.

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Colorado?

The local music scene is loud and strong. There's lots of places to play at and plenty of fans that can't get enough. The other local bands are talented and we respect everyone that we've gotten to share the stage with.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

We believe that artists should make more royalties off of streaming platforms. The only way that bands make money now is off of their merch at shows and ticket sales. You used to make more money off of CD's, tapes, and vinyl but streaming has completely taken over.

9. What’s next for Ashes & Philth?

We're excited to record our next studio album and we would like to try and get a tour as well.

10. Any shoutouts?

Shout out to our sound engineer Taylor Riley in Fusion Audio Solutions, Rick Christensen from Mesa Theater, Douglas Saterlund with Monumental Productions, our producer Shawn Burris and our local bands Salt, E4B, Throatsnatcher, Trailer Swift, and Hester Mofet.
