Sounds like: Rock
From: California
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound?
Noel and I are brothers and we started playing music together when we were very young. Growing up in the 80’s in Southeast Georgia we were exposed to all types of music but we listened to a lot of Metal and Southern Rock. Our sound developed from listening to bands like Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Cure, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Allman Brothers Band, etc.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
That it’s real emotion and dedicated to the craft of making and performing music 100% every time. I hope that people wanna turn it up, bang their heads and sing along!
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Our sound is dynamic and melodic, heavy, groove laden and common lyrics everyone can understand.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Mastodon, Gojira, and Blackberry Smoke.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
Never thought about it but for some people I’m sure it’s great. Whatever it takes to get ya creative!
6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?
I’m always a rock advocate and it will never die. Just go to a good rock show and you’ll be reminded even if the mainstream is more pop oriented these days.
7. What’s the current local music scene like there in California?
It’s alive and well! We have a lot of great bands coming out of California these days.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Of course I would like to see more money go to the bands. When you’re like us at the bottom, it seems impossible to make any money but we don’t do it for the money anyway….We look at it as a way to hang out with fellow bandmates and create something inspiring while we’re all alive. When we play shows it’s like going on vacation or a guys trip in the name of rock n roll!
9. What’s next for Shield of Snakes?
We are working on our next album and will play as many shows as possible. Hopefully we can get on some rad festivals soon.
10. Any shoutouts?
BIG shoutouts to ANYONE who listens to our music, buys our merch, comes to our shows and has interest in the band. Also, our families and friends who sacrifice when we are gone playing or recording. Thanks so much!!
