1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound?
A lot of it came from just writing songs on the side while backing other groups. I've moved around a lot in the last 6 years or so and with that change has happened. The biggest changes have come from making R&B from living in Houston, and adding so much gain, fuzz, and distortion. That happened with my friend Paul suggesting it as an idea.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Just how earnest we're trying to be with it. The longer I myself have done this the longer I've realized that not being perfect is what makes it count the most.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
I've been told dream pop, shoegaze, and emo with some soul in there. Pretty much just singer/songwriter stuff with a lot of fuzz and pedals added on lol.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
I'm shooting for the moon but Alvvays, Beach House, and maybe someone like Basement or Pavement. Geese is really fun too. Also I like Tyler the Creator and where he's gone with music.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
I used it to make album artwork once and I still sort of feel guilty about it. I feel like I should stray away from it unless I'm using mixing/mastering software as a sort of guide/starting point just to help me hear it from another angle.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Alternative?
Good. Better than it has been in a while. So happy for the stuff that has come out. Glad it has steered away from the non risk type music that was aimed at playlisting.
7. What’s the current local music scene like there in Texas?
Both good and bad. In DFW the venues I've played have been pretty supportive but it's hard to get people to come out at times. People depend too much on streaming to find new music in my opinion.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Not good. They could do much better.
9. What’s next for Goosechase?
I've been on and off with this for a while it seems. I've been pushing for the point of being able to record/mix/master everything from home and have basically gotten there for the most part. With Levi now being apart of it I'm hoping to play in Denton eventually and I want to play smaller, more intimate festivals around North America and Europe. With growth too I'll hope to bring back old members that have helped along the way such as Andrew Rutledge which did some great parts on the album that came out.
10. Any shoutouts?
Music is tough and there's a lot. Rafael Garcia who did half the drums on the album with me. My parents and family. All of the local venues that have been there or are currently there for us (Craft and Growler, 1818 Ojeman, Super Happy Fun Land) the local scene within Houston that helped me while I was there. Justin Hendricks, Kali Crews, Aztec Fibonacci, Groth, Breaker, anyone from Between Trees, Aztec Grass, Kinsley August and his group, Bryan David, Pete Wierenga, Jordan Richardson, Bubby. There's a lot of bands and musicians in Texas and Oklahoma that have helped us at one time or another. Split Window Productions. The local community from my hometown Denison and the churches of the area. Last but not least my little brother Seth. Who picked me up while he could in life. He will always be missed.
