All questions answered by Toban Terrio (Guitarist/Vocalist)

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound?

We've all been playing music in various bands since we were teenagers. Dave Patterson (drummer) and I played in a band called Choose Your Poison previous to this one. We talked about putting together another project after that band ended and that's how Retox A.D. (originally just Retox, later changed to not be confused with another band of the same name) came to be. We wanted to do fast 80's style hardcore punk. So we recorded a 9 song EP called 'Rabid Dog' in 2019 and recruited Nate Robbins to play bass shortly after. Eric Hammers from Deathwish also plays with us part time as a fill in bassist/2nd guitarist for tours & select shows.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Well, hopefully a record & a t-shirt! Hah. In all reality, we do what we do and try to put on a good show when we play. If you like it, that's great. If not, that's fine to. There's something out there for most everyone when it comes to music.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Fast Hardcore Punk, with a definite crossover/thrash tone. We've been compared to bands like Poison Idea & RKL.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

We've gotten to tour multiple times with D.R.I. and we toured/did a split LP with The Accused A.D., all of which was amazing! If I had to pick just 3 more, I'd say Circle Jerks, Suicidal Tendencies and The Cro-Mags.

5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?

I'm personally not a fan, but that seems to be the way things are going unfortunately.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Hardcore Punk?

Seems to be alive and well! As long as there's kids going to shows and starting bands, it'll stay alive in one facet or another.

7. What’s the current local music scene like there in Wisconsin?

Well, it depends where you live. Here in the Fox Cities (Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh), there's quite a few great shows featuring all sorts of punk/rock, hardcore and metal bands happening on a regular basis.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

A lot of smaller and mid sized bands seem to get the shaft from the major streaming sites. Bandcamp seems to be the most fair of them all. You can find all 3 of our releases being "Rabid Dog" (2020), Right to death (2022) & our split with The Accused A.D. "La Bestia" (2025) on there.

9. What’s next for Retox A.D.?

Writing and recording our next full length record. We'll also be doing some sort of tour on top our regional shows in 2027.

10. Any shoutouts?

Shout out to anyone who booked us, or came out to a show and enjoyed our set! Also shout out to DRI, The Accused AD and Deathwish for letting us tour with you. As well as some bands we've rocked with on multiple occasions such as Crucial Moves, The Crosses, Generation Why and a few I'm forgetting.
