1. What's new with A Darker Breed?
A little bit of everything, moved halfway across the state to Philly to indulge in the music and event scene here. I've been able to establish a small studio that has allowed me to make more music than ever.
2. What can you tell us about the new music you've been releasing and any in the works?
I'm constantly working on new stuff, I keep my SoundCloud mostly up to date but have a few unreleased tracks that are going to show up on my next album. My studio has really given me the space and freedom to experiment, look forward to upcoming music featuring funk, trance, death metal, dubstep, hip hop, numetal, RnB, shoe gaze, and even folk. These have all found a place in my sound in one way or another under the umbrella of A Darker Breed.
3. Who are your inspirations?
Recently I've been really into HEALTH, Cain Culto, Definer, revisiting a ton of indie dance and Electronica from the 2010s like the Knocks, Nero, Flux Pavillion and such.
4. Any live performances coming up?
None on the radar, just being a busy body in the studio.
5. Do you have a favorite track of yours, which one if so and why?
My favorite track most recently has to be Throw It Back, 2 minutes of heavy rapping, metal chorus and a synth vocal chop bridge that itches the brain stem.
6. What's one thing you'd change about the local music scene?
Nothing, I'm in Philly now and it's awesome, if you have a vision, you have a voice.
7. Who are some of your dream collabs you'd like to work with?
I have a vocalist I'd love to work with and will be recording stuff soon, she's amazing but I want to keep that close to my chest. Famously, HEALTH, Tech N9ne, Hed PE.
8. Any plans for any music videos?
I have a ton of TikToks available now! No real videos in the queue but that's always an option down the line.
9. What do you wish to accomplish for the rest of the year?
I hope to release my 4th album, compile all of the music I've made in the past couple months, do some mixing and mastering, order the tracks, make a fitting album cover and get it out to y'all!
-Interview- (5/19/25)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? How did the name "A Darker Breed" come about and is there any meaning to it?
I started music in middle school, learning guitar and getting heavily into bands like Slipknot, Mudvayne, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and others. I made music with a friend for a few years, made electronic music on my own for a long bit then joined a death metal band to unleash the voice inside. When that fell apart, I wanted to express music that was just mine.
A Darker Breed is me, always has been. I took it as a screen name at 14 and have built it up to represent all the music and art I make. It's a call for all who have been outcast at any point in their lives and those who like to run on the darker side of society.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
I hope they take my words and feelings and apply them to their lives. I hope they identify with the themes and feel at least some of what I feel making it.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Apocalyptic Electronic Self-Loathing. Tortured synths into the shape of guitars, subterranean bass, 10,000-ton drum samples, all under growls and screams of unrelenting loss and anger.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
I'd love to share the stage with Hed PE, Mudvayne, or Knife Party. There are so many more but I want to share it with any band that pushes their genres to the absolute limit.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
It's a fun toy, fun to practice with instrumentals, but it's not "your" music - it's the computer's.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Death Hop?
It's thriving - I see Trap Metal and Nu-Metal coming around and think there is a real place for electronic metal with East Coast and Southern Rap tendancies
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Pennsylvania?
I'm lucky to be where I am with so many awesome local bands and legacy musicians coming to play the area. The belt from Philly to Harrisburg is rife with talent.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
I don't see it as an income stream from how little it is. Over 5 years on Spotify I've made a solid $0.17
9. What’s next for A Darker Breed?
My next track "Inside Your Head Is Someone You Have Never Met" is dropping on Spotify on 6/6/25! More music, keep your ears to the SoundCloud to hear it first and to hear some stuff I'll never fully release, but more is coming to Spotify over the next couple of months.
10. Any shoutouts?
My friend's project DESTROY:DESTROYER, my family and friends, and to anyone who is joining me on this journey.
