Eternios is a Blackened Symphonic Death metal band from Vancouver, Canada created by Colin Ryley (Hyperia, Bayonet Dismemberment) in 2024. Originally starting as a studio-only creative side project, Eternios created and released their first full-length album "Mysterium" to the world in January 2025, receiving numerous praises and positive responses for the combination of aggressive black metal with melodic symphonic orchestral sections.
In late 2025, composing and recording started for the sophomore full-length "Requiem for the North", and the decision was made to turn Eternios into a live project. The album also had Marlee Ryley (Hyperia) taking over vocal duties to allow Colin to focus more on guitar moving into a live environment. "Requiem for the North" contains 9 originals along with a cover and is set to be released in Summer 2026. The title track single is available now on all streaming platforms.

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound?
Both of my parents played music so I grew up with music around me since I was a baby. It started with piano but I switched to Guitar primarily when I was 11 years old. My main influences for learning guitar were mostly Scandinavian Melodic Death and Black metal bands like Children of Bodom, Kalmah, Dimmu Borgir, Moonsorrow, Insomnium etc. This sound has permeated deeply into a lot of the music I write to this day, but I take inspiration from lots of genres including a vast amount of influence from classical composers such as Mozart, Vivaldi and Bach.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
The music behind Eternios has always been an homage to nature and and the combination of melodic harmonies with aggressive and fast drumming. I hope that there is enough melody in it for the black metal crowd to enjoy as well as enough heaviness for the more melodic listeners.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Blackened Symphonic Death Metal seems to be the closest genre to the music, but I would explain the music as melodic, fast and melancholic. It's a merger of my two favourite types of music, orchestral and dark.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Brymir, Insomnium, and Dimmu Borgir.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
I think any generative AI is completely immoral and unethical. It's essentially stealing copyrighted material and underpaying real artists to create soulless music. Keep AI to scientific and medical industries rather than the creative world.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Blackened Symphonic Death Metal?
I think it's great! I'm constantly finding new bands that are amazing. I think it can be a fairly niche genre but the fans who are into it are extremely passionate.
7. What’s the current local music scene like there in Vancouver, Canada?
Vancouver overall is a great music scene. I think across the board there's been a big hit to the music industry over the past couple years, but the music scene here seems to be holding through. There's tons of great bands and the community as a whole is super supportive and it's always a pleasure playing and attending shows.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
It is obviously very unevenly allocated to artists, but what can you do? I don't think anything is going to change any time soon. The more things keep going in this direction just force bands to play live and tour more, I believe that nothing will ever take away live shows.
9. What’s next for Eternios?
We will be releasing our sophomore album "Requiem for the North" sometime in the summer (ironic for the nature of the album being heavily winter-themed) and hoping to play as many shows as possible!
