-Interview- (9/25/26)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound?
We each came to music from different places, but Fight Naked came together around the same idea: write songs we believe in and make them hit hard live. Over the past four years, our sound has grown through writing, rehearsing, and playing together. We lean into heavy guitars and strong melodies, while leaving room for each member’s personality to come through.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
We want people to feel something and have a good time doing it. Some songs come from difficult places, but when we play them live, that energy becomes something we share with the crowd. If someone walks away singing a chorus or feeling a little less alone, that means a lot to us.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
Fight Naked is high-energy alternative rock with a hard rock edge: big guitars, driving rhythms, and songs built to be played loud. We care about the hooks as much as the intensity. As our slogan says, “Never A Dull Moment.”
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Limp Bizkit, Modest Mouse, and The Revivalists. They all bring something different to the stage, and that’s what would make the lineup exciting. We’d love the chance to play for their audiences and bring Fight Naked’s energy to every show.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
Technology can be useful for trying out ideas, but the part of music that matters most to us is the human part. We want to hear a person’s choices, imperfections, and point of view. AI-generated music raises real questions about credit and how artists’ work is used, and those questions deserve serious attention.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Hard Rock?
There’s still a strong appetite for loud, honest guitar music. Hard rock keeps changing as bands bring in different influences, and we think that’s healthy. For us, the test is whether a song connects with people when you play it in a room together.
7. What’s the current local music scene like there in California?
We can speak best to San Diego. There are a lot of talented musicians here and people willing to come out for live music. It takes work for an independent band to build an audience, so we appreciate the venues, other bands, and fans who give original music a place to grow. We’d love to keep building those connections across California.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Streaming makes it easy for someone anywhere to discover Fight Naked, and we value that reach. At the same time, it’s difficult for independent artists to rely on streaming income to pay for recording, touring, and making the next release. We’d like to see a system that gives artists a stronger return from the music people listen to. For fans who want to help a band keep going, coming to a show, buying merch, and sharing the music all make a difference.
9. What’s next for Fight Naked?
We’re working toward recording and releasing more music, playing more shows, and getting in front of audiences who haven’t heard us yet. We’ve got songs we’re excited about, and we want the recordings to capture the energy people get from us live.
10. Any shoutouts?
Absolutely—to everyone who has come to a show, shared a song, bought a shirt, or helped us get onstage. Thank you to the bands we’ve played with, the people behind the venues, and everyone supporting original music in San Diego. We appreciate you. Never A Dull Moment.
