Sounds like: Rock
From: Wisconsin

1. What's new with H27?

After we released our album “Dark Skies Filled With Lies,” it received very good reviews. The song, “Tsunami” from that album was a WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) award finalist in 2023 for Rock Song of The Year. Our internet presence has grown and our music has reached listeners in 107 countries. We created videos for a handful of songs from that release. We are presently writing music for our next album.

2. How's the new music coming along and is there a release date for it?

We are just starting to write again. Unfortunately, Schack broke his arm earlier this year and it put a pause on our writing process. We are looking forward to getting our writing momentum back. So far, we can easily say that it is some of the heaviest and most aggressive music we have written. As for a release date, we do not have one yet. We were hoping a for a slightly earlier release, but now it will now probably be late 2026.

3. What can you tell us about inspiration for the new music?

We are always inspired by the music we love, but when writing, we tend to be inspired by each other’s playing. We do not intentionally try to sound like anybody but us. In the past we have written in standard tuning whether it be 6 or 7 string guitars. For this album, we are additionally writing material in drop-D, which is also inspiring us in different ways. Schack feels like the flood gates have opened for his creativity which is lending to heavier riffs. As for lyrics, we have been motivated to write about life experiences so far. Bobby always has ideas in waiting which lead to us writing songs like “SINderella” and “Just a Freak.”

4. What have you been listening to lately?

Bobby has been listening to Prince, Parliament, and Jimmy Hendrix. Schack has been listening to a lot of Sevendust recently, in addition his normal mix of hard rock and metal. Ken has been listening to country and Celine Dion…and thankfully some Slayer and Cannibal Corpse also. Steve has been listening to Krokus and Kiss lately.

5. Do you have any pre-show rituals before performing?

Not really. Finding Ken? He seems to disappear just before we take the stage. Hitting the head prior to going on stage, maybe? Perhaps, dealing with last minute Spinal Tap moments. We have learned to adapt quickly when things go wrong just before playing. We have had gear malfunction minutes before playing, we’ve blown venue’s breakers, etc.…

6. What's one thing you'd change about the local music scene?

We would love to see more widespread support of original bands in our area. The venues mostly want cover bands and the cover bands generally have larger followings than the original bands. There are a lot of great bands and musicians in the area and it would be nice if more people took notice.

7. What's your favorite show that you've played and why?

We played the Midwest Original Music (MOM) Festival back in 2018. It may have not been the best stage we played or the best stage sound, but it was when we first felt like we were entertaining the crowd and not just playing for them. It was reaching that level of comfort with our stage presence as a band.

8. Any plans for any new music videos?

We have previously discussed about doing another video this year. We were looking at possibly doing one for the instrumental, “Severed Anus and The Stuffed Rat’. We figured that we could just go nuts with a green screen because there is no lyrical content for the video to convey a story. Time will tell if it happens since we lost so much time for writing new music due to Schack’s injury earlier this year.

9. What do you wish to accomplish for the rest of 2025?

We want to continue writing new music for the next album. We will not rule out playing some shows, but we are more focused on writing now. We want to make the best album that we can. Possibly make another video if time permits. We’d like to get in a photoshoot for the next album also. The primary goal is to have a great album to release next year that will not disappoint.
