Sounds like: Metal
From: Belgium
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound?
Music has always been a part of our lives? We grew up listening to different styles of rock and metal. Virginia (vocals) was looking for a guitarist for a new musical project, and met Alexis (guitars) this way. Together, they united their forces and ideas, created powerful riffs and memorable singing melodies. And the band MY EVILSIDE came to life! Then, a bassist and a drummer joined the adventure and the chemistry between the band members happened naturally.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
We want people to feel something real and honest, that the lyrics speak to them, that our music liberates them, that they tear away the veil of shyness and release their evil side ! ;)
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
My Evilside blends Hard Rock and modern Metal with strong melodies, powerful vocals and heavy guitars. If you like friendly musicians who offer energetic live shows, who put their heart and soul into the songs, and girls who sing loudly and growl... You're at the right place! Follow us!
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
That's a difficult choice ! Because we love a lot of bands and we all have different tastes in metal music. Our singer's dream would be Avenged Sevenfold, Halestorm, Papa Roach: they have the same energy in their songs and a compatible audience. Our guitarist would be crazy to tour with Exodus, Pantera or Gojira.
5. What's your thoughts on AI generated music?
We are uncompromising on this point...Music MUST come from the soul, from the human emotion or experiences. AI cannot replace the authenticity that comes from real musicians expressing genuine feelings. Some people who don't know how to play music, are now able to generate a complete track in 2 minutes and pretend to be artists.... They're just cheaters!
6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?
There's a lot of diversity and plenty of new discoveries. Sometimes it feels like the scene is overcrowded. There are many promising new talents, but it seems the opportunities are always given to the signed bands. For example, it's practically impossible for a small band to play at a medium or big fest (even as openers), because the labels offer their packages to the organizers. And it's all about the money...
7. What’s the current local music scene like there in Belgium?
Belgium has passionate musicians and very good bands. But the country struggles to promote its artists. Whether in variety or Pop music, many of them had to pass through neighboring countries to become famous, and then Belgium showed some interest.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Streaming has made music more accessible than ever. But the financial return for (independent) artists is often very low. We believe musicians deserve fair compensation for their work, especially considering the time, effort, expenses and investment required to create music. Artists have no other choice but to give many live concerts, go on tour and sell a lot of merch. That constitutes a large part of their income.
9. What’s next for My EvilSide?
We recently released our first single "Kintsugi" and will be back in the studio in September to record additional songs and release an EP. We have many concerts and 2 local festivals coming up for the end of the year, including the "Grrrlz of Steel Tour", organized by our band and that will take place in the Belgians clubs in October and November.
10. Any shoutouts?
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supports independent music: fans, friends, families and fellow musicians. To all those who show us an interest, we couldn't do it without you!
