1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Patient Sixty Seven” and is there any meaning behind it?

Hi! We started around 2 years ago now, between myself (Tom) and our guitarist Dylan! It was definitely something that snowballed as time went on - we were messing around writing music for a bit of fun and slowly but surely it started morphing towards the heavier side of things! We had some pretty cool song ideas and we just kind of developed them as we went along.

The truth is - we never really had the intention to play live, or really even release anything publicly! It’s not like our mindset was that of a band starting out where the goals and ambitions were clear. That’s something that’s come with time for us - but in the beginning it was just kind of like ‘yeah, this sounds cool’ and then we had a few songs and decided we would release them under a name. Then we thought we’d try and play a few live shows - so yeah it was definitely gradual! I’ve always enjoyed making music (though I’d never been in a full fledged band before this) and Dylan has been in bands before so once we started moving towards this project being something more than a studio band - it moved along really nicely!

Shutter Island is a favourite movie of mine, and the name kind of just stuck! Patient Sixty-Seven represents some of the coolest themes found in the film - if you haven’t seen it - I’d definitely recommend checking it out!

2. What do you want listeners to take away from your upcoming "Callous" single?

Just to feel something. If people take anything away from our music, then that’s always a plus. Good or band, we appreciate people taking the time to listen. We think our upcoming release due in June is our strongest material yet.

3. What can people expect from your live show?

Energy. That’s what we try to bring every time! And just a lot of movement, and good times. We encourage people to give everything they’ve got when watching us play.

4. What's your favorite track to play live?

Our new release ‘Callous’ is up there, but overall I’d have to say "Gustavo Bling". We’ve always had our debut single in the setlist and it’s usually a good time when we roll it out.

5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

I guess this would definitely differ for everyone personally in the band, but Slipknot because they’re so so good live. Staples of the Australian scene such as Parkway Drive would be great bands to tour with also. I also love Dance Gavin Dance - they’re completely different stylistically so it’s probably not the best example but just watching them multiple times would be incredible.

6. Any crazy show stories?

There’s always a few! Usually less-crazy and more things that can go wrong do go wrong with equipment. But that’s apart of it haha and we laugh about that stuff afterwards. We love playing themed shows, and our first time at Amplifier Bar everyone dressed up in Disney costumes which was a lot of fun.

7. What’s your take on the current state of rock?

It's strong, but I guess it really depends on a number of things in order for it to thrive. Bands need to stay innovative and engaging, and fans need to stay engaged by supporting the bands they enjoy.

8. What’s the current music scene like there in Australia both locally and country wide?

Definitely a really positive environment most of the time, Australia is incredibly lucky to have so many talented artists on our doorstep. People are generally supportive, but at the same time it’s obviously competitive too! People look after each other though, and I’ve met so many great people just by being involved in the scene as a fan, and playing in a band as well.

9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

I think at this point it’s pretty much inevitable. I don’t think you can worry about it too much from our level. Some say it’s a problem, but I guess at the end of the day buying the music you dig is important in so many ways and that won’t ever change.

10. What’s next for Patient Sixty Seven?

New music for sure. We’re putting the hard yards in to write some new material we’re proud of, and it’s all coming together in time. Hopefully some great shows to play before the years out as well!

11. Any shoutouts?

Just to our friends and family for being so supportive. We appreciate anyone who takes the time to listen and we hope you’ll keep up with what we’re doing next!
