Sounds like: Metal

Colorado metal band Fighting The Phoenix released this EP back in May and fans of metal and metalcore should get a kick out of it. The intro track "Ira Flactibus" opens things up in chaotic fashion before giving away to the next track "Atlantis". "Atlantis" brings to mind early As I Lay Dying as it melds together vicious breakdowns, shredding riffs and soaring melodies. "Divinity" features Ryan Kirby (Fit For A King) and right from the get go it goes for the jugular. The cataclysmic breakdowns and heaviness on the track are something that fans of August Burns Red should enjoy immensely. "Dream Catcher" is a fast paced melodic metalcore track that brings the house down with its intensity. There's a slight Trivium vibe as the track shows a tremendous amount of depth along with its metal influences. "Tr-8r" is a track that draws comparisons to Feed Her To The Sharks with its ferocity. The track really takes the heaviness to an all new level and absolutely destroys everything in its path. "Horror Of Babylon" opens up with a barbershop quartet type acapella before blasting into some extreme metalcore sound. Somehow even though its the sixth track, the EP seems to be getting heavy. That's very rare to find and its something very refreshing. The closer "Believe In Me" ends things on a high note. The track sums up their sound perfectly with melody and brutality on the forefront. It's a solid closer to a remarkable EP.

Verdict:
This new EP from Fighting The Phoenix sets the bar high for metal/metalcore fans.
