1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Vacant Image” and is there any meaning behind it?

This is a hard question as we all grew up with so many different influences such as the Rolling Stones, Nirvana and Silverchair, but it’s hard to pin point what exact bands influenced our sound. We generally write how we feel. We don’t believe in restrictions, borders and categories. As for our name, the band was originally named VI (Roman Numeral 6) and we thought it would be hard for fans to find us so we put some thought into coming up with a new name but still stay true to our origin. Therefore, Vacant Image was born.

2. What do you want listeners to take away from your upcoming "Before 12" (due out on 2/25) album?

Energy! Get out of it what we put in. This album has the “get out of bed and take on the world” feel. If we can make people feel empowered by listening to our music then we have achieved our goal.

3. What can people expect from your live show?

That sense of empowerment and strengthening, the feeling of “I can do anything”. We bring the album to life on stage. That and just a really great time enjoying live music.

4. What's your favourite track to play live?

I don’t know if you would call it a favourite because we love all the songs we play live, but if we had to choose, it would be "Mister Bell", because that’s usually our set opener and brings the energy.

5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

We would love to experience a tour with the Deftones, Alice In Chains and The Foo Fighters.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?

It’s boring! Look at the amount of 90's bands that have come back, it's getting revived again. The fathers of Alternative Rock have come back to lead us the right way again.

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Australia both locally and country wide?

The Melbourne scene is the scene to crack. The majority of Australian bands come to Melbourne. Powderfinger played here (Melbourne) non-stop in the early 90's and Cog did the same thing. But Melbourne is the hardest place to crack but once you do, you open up to the rest of Australia.

8. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

Downloading music is fine as long as you go to shows. A lot of bands don’t care about how you get their music as long as you go to shows. They might see a couple dollars from an album sale online as opposed to seeing $30 for one t-shirt sale and bands also see admission fee. If you get enjoyment out of a band, go to a show, go buy a shirt and if you really love them buy an album there, like "Before 12" lol.

9. What’s next for Vacant Image?

Right now we are focusing on our album launch for "Before 12" (on 2/25) and getting our music heard, as well as playing some bigger shows and not dying.

10. Any shout outs?

At the pub? haha But a shout out to everyone that has supported us so far and those that have caught us live.
