1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Lÿnx" and is there any meaning behind it?

Blade: Honestly speaking, we all come from very different musical backgrounds and have our own inspirations in music. BLADE is a straight up rock and roll guy, inspired highly from 80s hair bands, whereas FANGS is inspired anywhere from classic rock to country music. On the other hand, FLASH loves hard rock to heavy metal while our youngest member of the band JA6UR grew up listening to the hair metal bands because of his dad & draws inspiration from there. Together we share a common love for rock n roll & that’s what made us create the Lÿnx sound. As far as the name goes, like most bands, we struggled in coming up with a good name & probably went through quite a few of them. Finally, we settled on Lÿnx as it’s cool, catchy & very Canadian.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Flash: The main thing we want people to take away from our music is Energy and excitement. We have so much fun writing and creating all these songs together and we want to bring that energy to the listener. Our focus is to get people up on their feet, dancing, interacting with the band and having a great time. We all work incredibly hard to create these songs and we want that to be conveyed to the audience through our performance.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Flash: Our sound is straight out of the 80s. All of us grew up listening to the amazing bands that came before us from Aerosmith to ZZ Top and everyone in between. Drawing from the 70s, 80s, and 90s sounds has allowed us a huge amount of inspiration that we can add to our sound while still adding our unique touch. We strongly believe that Rock N Roll is coming back with a vengeance. We want to be on the forefront of that new generation that finds this old style and sound.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Ja6ur: There’s so many that would be a DREAM to tour with. Off the top of my head, personally, I’d love to tour with The Struts. Their album Everybody Wants is probably one of the best rock albums of the 2010’s. Another one would be Palaye Royale. Remington’s voice is fuckin crazy. Obviously Steel Panther would be insane as well! Honestly, we are always open to working with any bands that are cool!

5. How has Covid affected what you do as a band?

Blade: It may sound bad, but Covid worked in our favour. Lÿnx was formed during the 2020 pandemic. During that crazy time, when the world was falling apart, we had the time to think and write our original songs & release our very first self titled EP! Back in 2020, due to restrictions we couldn’t rehearse as a band, but used to spend time at home to come up with ideas & record one-to-one once a week! The whole album was made like that at Bullzhorn Studio which is Blade’s personal recording studio.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Hard Rock/Glam Metal?

Ja6ur: The state of rock music is in a weird place. As much as I feel like it's in a resurgence, I also feel like it's losing its soul. We are living in a world right now where we’re done with pop music. At least that's how I feel. Don’t get me wrong I'll throw on some Justin Timberlake whenever I'm getting liquored up haha. But this is what the world needs right now. We’re angry. We’re fed up with the way things are. We want music that reflects what we feel, and I like to think that Lÿnx’s next album is going to touch on that more. Rock ain’t dead yet.

7. What’s the current music scene like locally there in Canada?

Flash: The music scene is full of some amazing artists and wonderful people. Where we are from in Calgary there is an incredible Metal scene but also a wide variety of different artists from all different genres hoping to make their mark on the industry any way they can. As long as people are putting out the music, they love then the scene will always be thriving. Its all about supporting other artists and keeping everyone moving forward.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Flash: Honestly, I think that there should be more compensation for artists and the hard work that is put into their songs. IN the current climate we can’t rely on touring and playing shows to generate income as much as we would like to and the amount of time, effort, money, blood sweat, and tears isn’t justified by the amount that artists are paid out at then end. However, having anyone listen to our music and being able to reach people around the world with our music is a huge advantage and a dream come true. The key is to keep working, grinding and getting as much music out to our fans as possible. One day those numbers will even out and allow us to keep making more and more music that we love.

9. What’s next for Lÿnx?

Flash: Up next for Lÿnx we are currently working on a new full-length album with out new vocalist. WE want to continue playing as many shows as possible and get started on our first tour. All of us have goals to play all over the world and were going to work as hard as anyone to make those happen.

10. Any shoutouts?

We want to give huge shoutouts to our Friends, Family and Spouses who are extremely supportive of our dreams. Without them none of this would be possible. We also want to shoutout some big supporters from the local music scene including Dan Lowey, and Nate trash for helping us get onto the scene. Some sponsors include The New Vintage Guitars out of Calgary, Soultone Cymbals and of Course Poppa K with Just Music out of Cranbrook BC. Thanks for the support everyone we want to keep making you proud!
