Sounds like: Metal

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Naerok" and is there any meaning behind it?

Vyle - Since middle school this has been my dream! I remember trying to form a band in 7th grade and as cringe-worthy as it was, it was my humble beginning and with all the influences over the years has developed into what you hear now. Haha Næŕok is the culmination of aggravation in finding a band name that's unique and NOT TAKEN lol We used to go by Aeterna until Luke brought it to my attention that 30+ bands already had that name... so we struggled with other names until I wanted to do an iteration of Ragnarok. Take off the Rag, mess with a few letters and slightly change the pronunciation and BOOM you have Næŕok!

Luke - My start in music was 1st as a classical guitar student who then went on to intentionally unlearn everything learned about music theory for the sake of making Death Metal over the Internet with people from around the world. I started and joined a few bands until meeting (Jessie) when they lived in Florida and we got some people together to start what was then called Aeterna. We of course eventually discovered how many other bands have used that name and sought out original ideas for the name and eventually settled on Næŕok.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Vyle - Empowerment and something that's very relatable.

Luke - I would rather people come to their own conclusions on our sound and what it means to them. Being misunderstood is common and I'd rather just focus on my putting all my intentions into the creation of the music without taking it too seriously.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Vyle - Black, Industrial, Symphonic Metal something. Honestly I have no idea.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Vyle - Evanescence, Heilung, and Arkon.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

Vyle - Not trust stupid people to do smart things for one, and it gave me more time to work on music. I'm solitary as it is, but I miss performing.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?

Vyle - The amount of older men/gatekeepers that think music should be one way is not what Rock/Metal was built for. It's stagnant with too many big bands that sound too much alike, we need diversity!

Luke - The genre lines of Metal have been so thoroughly blurred, I'm glad it has mostly erased the gatekeeping. I can't wait to hear what weird and alien things evolve next.

7. What's the current music scene like there in at your local scenes?

Vyle - Denver has a very interesting variety of music and so many venues... so many!

Luke- Underground Metal in Florida has run its course of tired old-school Death Metal and Metalcore, but there's always a few standout bands like Clara Noctis, Shining Wizard, and Collapsor to name a few.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Vyle - Big business wants big money for them but not for us. They can starve us of royalties but weren't not stopping.

9. What's next for Naerok?

Vyle - Everything! The world is our oyster!!! Haha We have a themed autobiographical album coming sometime next year. Then full time touring. There's no stopping us!

10. Any shoutouts?

Vyle - Death Pigeon, AGBAT, Jamsteak, Mourning Scars, and Anger Overdose. Freaking awesome people with freaking awesome music!
