Sounds like: Death Metal

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Agenesis" and is there any meaning behind it?

At 11 I began my musical journey with a guitar that my father bought me. I was hooked & frustrated both simultaneously. At 23 I created a project, Forced Asphyxiation, with an old friend of mine, you could say this is where “my sound” was developed. After one album and many tours & live shows we disbanded in 2016. I took a hiatus from music in the band aspect, though I never stopped playing guitar. Agenesis began as I started to come out of hibernation in 2021. I began recording the riffs I had and would send them to Lewis McDonald, of MorningStar Studios who was mapping the drums out for the songs.

The name was originally Corpus Callosum but I went with Lewis McDonald’s idea of Agenesis, which is a malformation or absence of the Corpus Callosum within the Human Brain. The Corpus Callosum is a Fibrous Nerve centre that Connects both Hemispheres of the Left/Right Brain, creating communication between both. The name plays into the concept of the band in which humanity has lost connection with reality, truth & knowledge.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

A take away quite simply would be to enjoy the music like any other MetalHead feel the riffs and bang their heads. A step further would be for someone to find a key that unlocks some knowledge the ancients already transcribed for us that have been hidden away by those who seek to control organic life.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Agenesis’ sound is based upon previous Death Metal/Metal acts I've been listening to since I bought CDs that looked cool, not knowing what I'd be in for. I'm sure a lot of my musical influences of non-Metal come through in other ways but for the most part this project is all about brutal riffs, cascading harmonies, and speaking truths.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

How about 4! Skinless, Decapitated, Necrophagist, and Hideous Divinity.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

Covid hasn’t affected anything for me, it's actually opened my eyes to how blind humanity is to no fault of their own. We always look to others to find the way not everyone is a leader. Covid only showed me how to be a better leader and less of a “people pleaser”.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?

I don’t pay attention to this, I try to focus on what I enjoy and keep it moving.

7. What's the current music scene like there in Massachusetts?

There has always been a great group of bands that dwell & play in out and around Massachusetts. Bands from Rhode Island, New Hampshire & Maine all play shows around this whole New England area. We are filled with vast musicians who all are extremely talented and very much supportive of each other. If by scene you mean “the cool kids click”, I stay far away from these individuals which are a cancer to music locally. Insert said “People Pleaser” here. No fucking thanks!

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Well, art is art it should first off hold no material value to oneself but your own pride of self accomplishment. Shame on those who would capitalise on others labor of creativity & give no fair share. Just like how the world is run, isn’t it? First world problems to me. As long as my music reaches others the support will show inevitably through physical merchandise and support for live shows. I'm not here to make $. True enrichment is in the ear of the beholder.

9. What's next for Agenesis?

As of now, a four track release is being finalised. There is no set time and will happen at my own pace. My main Focus is being strategic.

10. Any shoutouts?

Of Course!! I definitely want to thank you, From The Depths Entertainment, for reaching out and asking Agenesis to join the eclectic roster you possess! Lewis McDonald of Morningstar Studios in upstate New York! If not for him these songs would have never been developed. Thank you to anyone who procures interest and supports this endeavour. Skål!!
