1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Strangers With Kandy” and is there any meaning behind it?

It started with Kyle and Rhys finding a couple of guitars in their closets, and taking it as a sign from the rock gods to start a band. Michael had a pair of Rock Band drumsticks and we forced him to play a couch. Eventually we picked up Tyler Yogi who became the group’s bassist. From there we just messed around until this happened. The name was presented to us by a mutual friend who suggested it as a joke, however, we loved it and it became our name.

2. What do you want listeners to take away from your "Slightly Sweet Mostly Sour" album?

That the album contains music. We just wanted to prove that we are a legitimate band.

3. What can people expect from your live show?

This is where we shine. From a frontman whose afro captivates and hypnotizes the audience, to a drummer who flails in a motion of an epileptic jellyfish, we create an atmosphere of energy and excitement for our audiences. We encourage our fans to jump onto the stage, mosh, sing along, and much more. Our former promoter saw people leaving our show with “titillated testicles and exploded ovaries.”

4. What's your favorite track to play live?

None of us agree on this, so we have 4 different answers:
Mike: "Globble Globble".
Kyle: "Gilmore".
Yogi: "Pensacola".
Rhys: "Doug-less".

5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

NOFX, Descendents and Bayside.

6. Any crazy show stories?

I once saw a man jump off the stage and dragon kick a bouncer in the face. He then proceeded to slide off the bouncer and kick Kyle in the face. Also, someone peed on two of our friends after one of our shows. One of these friends was wearing a bunny suit.

7. What’s your take on the current state of punk?

If I were to put this into a metaphysical conceit, it would go like this:
There once was a bunny named Chris,
On his bunny head felt piss.
And down his shoulder
And down his hip
Did drip the piss drip.

So he cleaned it off
And ignored that bane,
He continue to rock
But the smell remained.

8. What’s the current music scene like there in Hawaii both locally and statewide?

There is no scene outside of Honolulu. The scene in Honolulu is constantly changing. Sometimes the scene can be extremely exclusive of newer bands but at other times it can be overwhelmingly supportive. Just like any other business, it's about being in the right place at the right time.

9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

Honestly, we just want people to listen to us. If you like us enough to pay for our music, then awesome, and thank you. And for those who just heard about us and decide to download our album illegally, we are flattered that those people would break the law for us.

10. What’s next for Strangers With Kandy?

Do music goodly, release EP, book tour.

11. Any shoutouts?

Mommies and Daddies and Guardianies. And not Tylor Mcdaniel. He did nothing.
