1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Sonus Corona” and is there any meaning behind it?
Sonus Corona began as a side project between the drummer Rasmus and guitarist Ari which quickly grew into a full band. The sound of Sonus Corona is a combination of classic prog metal blended with modern influences and elements of different genres. First and foremost like any band, we create music we enjoy to play and listen. On a deeper level we hope that our music inspires and challenges the listener both musically and lyrically.
We had a different name initially which wasn't that original. We started a brainstorm of different ideas and Sonus Corona came up and we all liked it immediately. Literally, it means ”the crown of sound” or ”the edge of sound” and we enjoy both interpretations immensely.
2. What do you want listeners to take away from your "Sonus Corona" album?
A sound that combines raw aggressiveness and glimmers of light in a progressive casing. The album is made of heavy riffs, melody and groove. Of course you will hear carefully designed structures and screaming solos.
3. What can people expect from your live show?
We try to mediate the atmosphere and feel of the album infused with live energy. When we play live, we want to give the best experience we can to our fans.
4. What's your favorite track to play live?
"Till The End Of My Days" is the song we all want to include in every live set.
5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Tool, Textures and Porcupine Tree.
6. Any crazy show stories?
Just some mishaps with schedules and sound engineers, nothing super.
7. What’s your take on the current state of metal?
Great bands and some incredible music out there. Promising new names emerging and the old giants still releasing amazing records. That is the beauty of today. Smaller indie bands (like us) can release their music worldwide with just a few clicks. On the other hand the worldwide supply has seriously reached huge proportions compared to the demand.
8. What’s the current music scene like there in Finland both locally and country wide?
Northern metal has always had a special place in the genre and we have some big names of Finnish origin. Locally, there are many amazing bands too, but the live opportunities could be better.
9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?
It's so easy to stream any kind of music legally these days from Spotify, YouTube etc. and the revenues are ridiculously small that it's completely idiotic to download music illegally.
10. What’s next for Sonus Corona?
We are currently writing new music and will enter the studio soon.
