1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Blood of Angels" and is there any meaning behind it?
I got started in music when I was 10. My grandfather was a jazz and classical music pianist. I have loved music as long as I can remember. I started playing guitar after I heard Ozzy Osbourne’s “Randy Rhodes Tribute” album. I have not wanted to do anything else since. Our sound comes from a blend of many genres of metal. We love Iron Maiden as much as we love Morbid Angel and Dark Tranquility. Our goal is to be able to blend death, thrash, black, power, and melodic death metal into a cohesive sound. Blood of Angels is a name I have had in the back of my mind for a while. I feel that it is a good metal name that can work with a diversity of sounds. Symbolically, angles are found in stories of most religious faiths. The metaphoric spilling of their blood would be the end of organized religion.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Our goal is to do concept albums based on a singular theme. Our first Ep “Rise of the Fallen Gods” is a three-part story based on Norse Mythology. Our current album “Failure of Faith” is a concept album on how the three major monotheistic religions Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have developed, and how these three faiths have spent centuries warring and dividing humanity. What people can take away from our music is to question preconceived notions that are taught to most people as the way life is.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
I would say it is a blend of melodic death metal, black metal, and thrash metal styles.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Iron Maiden, Dark Tranquility, and Slipknot.
5. How has Covid affected what you do as a band?
We have had five tours cancelled last year. So far it looks like we may not tour this year.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Metal?
Although metal is no longer in the mainstream, except for a few bands. I think that the genre is in a strong long-lasting place. The same way that jazz music has continued to survive and find new fans through the generations. There will always be people who will discover and love this music. There will always be clubs and theaters willing to host bands of this genre. Metal festivals will continue to be great celebrations. I am incredibly positive for the future of metal.
7. What’s the current music scene like there in Florida?
Florida is the birthplace of death metal. That musical history is celebrated within the scene. We are proud to be a part of a amazing metal scene with a lot of talent. Florida scene has always been strong.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
I think it is horrible that it is nearly impossible for artist to make any kind of living from streaming royalties. Even top pop artist is making a little more in royalties then those who work for minimum wage.
9. What’s next for Blood of Angels?
We hope to get to tour and do what we love most in the business and play live. We have just submitted our cover of “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” to Antichrist Magazine’s Black Sabbath Compilation album. We got a lyric video in the works, and we have also started writing for our next album. At the present time we will continue to perform in Florida since our state is open for small shows.
