1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Diseased Earth" and is there any meaning behind it?

Diseased Earth started back in 2014 in the ashes of several local bands and we all gravitated towards each other because we wanted to offer something different than what we were currently seeing in our music scene. We wanted to make heavy, uncompromising music and show people the power of the riff. Our bassist Joe is actually the one who came up with the name and its our view on humanity and how we are a plague to everything we touch. We take and destroy, but give nothing back. Our line up has changed quite a bit over the years, but our current line up is the strongest and I believe the final form of the band. We all have no egos and all on the same page musically.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

We want people to feel the power of the riff. If you can come up with a riff that will get stuck in their heads and find themselves humming randomly, then you know its a good one.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

Getting hit with a two ton hammer strapped with explosives and a bunch of rusty nails.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

As far as bigger bands; Crowbar, Thou, Goatwhore. As far as friend bands; Vomit Stain, Cut The Architect’s Hand, and Alluvion.

5. How has Covid affected what you do as a band?

It was weird not playing shows, because we play quite a bit, so we decided to use the time to find a new producer to up our recording game and I believe we found that in Buddy Harlow. The singles we’ve done with him, we are extremely proud of and can't wait to record with him again.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Sludge Metal?

Alive and well, so many good bands out there, whether they be new or older. So many are starting to break down the borders and add in spices of death metal and grind to that sludge formula and make some truly amazing music.

7. What’s the current music scene like there in Virginia?

Virginia has an amazing scene. There are so many great bands here and so passionate fans.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Artist are not getting paid what they deserve. You can have millions of streams and get paid pennies for it and we just blindly go along with it, its absurd. We have to remember we don’t need them, they need us. Music existed long before and will continue to after streaming services are done.

9. What’s next for Diseased Earth?

Well its finally looking like shows are coming back and we are more than excited for that. We have so many new songs that we are ready to unleash upon the masses.

10. Any shoutouts?

Go check out all our homies in Alcindor, Cut The Architects Hand, Alluvion, Vomit Stain, Spiral Fracture, The Osedax, Earthling, Krode, Crab Action, 434, tiller, Spiral Grave, Black Market Jesus, Ugress, and so many more.
