1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Rotfang and the Reptilians" and is there any meaning behind it?
The core idea of Rotfang stems from the need to create and co-create original music. We all come from very different musical backgrounds which reflects distinctively in our sound. The meaning behind "Rotfang and the Reptilians" shall remain secret and the silence of those who discover it will be paid with free merch.
2. What do you want people to take away from your music?
Excitement, confusion, anxiety and sexual invigoration. Preferably all at once.
3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?
We found ourselves to be in this amusing space where those who listen to pop say we are too heavy and metalheads say we sound like babies.
4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
Biffy Clyro, Queens of the Stone Age and IDLES.
5. How has Covid affected what you do as a band?
As a band we are born and raised under the Covid restrictions so it’s kinda hard to say what life could be without it. For sure we had played more gigs by now but it has also been blessing in disguise cause we got to spend more time just practicing and honing our sound and songs. That being said we are as ready as anyone to see the end this.
6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?
It used to be really good and then it wasn't and now it's good again.
7. What’s the current music scene like locally there in Finland?
Finland has the most heavy metal bands per capita and then there's one Rotfang and the Reptilians. Please review the answer given to interview question number three. No but seriously, Finland has both great and active punk and rock scene which we are eager to get better acquainted with.
8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?
Why do you think we all have our day jobs? In general, would be nice to see more positive approach to live acts which perform original material. As far as we're concerned music isn't viable source of income until you reach a certain level of success. With or without the streaming incomes. Furthermore, that level is hard to reach since there are so many great bands and artist trying to get their slice of the pie. As a band from Finland we are fighting against crushing numbers but we put up a fight nevertheless. At the end of the day only thing that truly matters is that we get to play music that we love with the people we like to spend time with. Sorry, what was the question again?
9. What’s next for Rotfang and the Reptilians?
Oh you know, just the usual. Contract with a major label, guitarist buys himself a truck with a big ass diesel engine which our vocalist despises because he drives a Prius, global stadium tour, consumption of too many intoxicants, the band will have a brief hiatus while the bass player explores his avantgarde side project, and come next tuesday, we are practicing and writing again.
