Sounds like: Rock
From: Ohio

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Neon Straightjackets" and is there any meaning behind it?

We all grew up playing music, happened to go to high school together, and all took our separate influences from different genres of music and threw them all together. The name "Neon Straightjackets" was completely made up and has absolutely zero meaning, but it sounds neat.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Life's short, and it's okay to be sad sometimes. You know how when you go to the movies, and you lose complete track of what time it is, where the sun should be, blahblahblah? It's something all art and entertainment does, and it's called escapism. Being pulled out of the real world and being placed somewhere and sometime where you can not think about things for a while, or make you think in a thought provoking way that helps you handle what is in your mind. We aspire to be people's escapism, or security blanket... Either way, no matter what walk of life, your feelings are safe with us. Be you, be sad, whatever. Just sit back and feel.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

If Nirvana and Green Day had a baby. Kinda.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Larry wants to tour with Highly Suspect. Colton wants to tour with Fall Out Boy. Johnny wants to tour with Rob Zombie.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

We actually became a band once covid mandates started to ease up, so we haven't had to deal with it as much as other bands.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?

Currently it's been influenced a lot by the more popular genres, not to say that's a bad thing, but there's something that clicks when you get a band in front of you live. There's something for everyone out there, you just have to find the certain style of music you enjoy.

7. What’s the current music scene like locally there in Indiana?

Thriving! We have met so many great bands playing all over Indiana. And the venues we've played at have been nothing less than amazing.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

It's a great service that's being provided to the artists, but the fractions of a penny recieved per listen isn't exactly fair. Art that pulls in traffic should be more respected/rewarded by large companies.

9. What's next for Neon Straightjackets?

Stick around and find out!

10. Any shoutouts?

Groamy from Groamy's CDs and Tapes in Lima, Ohio! Kevin Mendenhall of Hayloft Recording! Zach Skyler of ALT 102.3, ALT 102.3 itself, and Sweetwater Studios! Jay Thomas of OCCR. Everyone that has supported us so far! And the new people who are hearing about us for the first time!
