From: Illinois
Sounds like: Rock

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "The Truth Council" and is there any meaning behind it?

I started playing music in 1985. I played with a group called Jynx from 1986 -1998. We started out playing hair metal and as we got better at our prospective instruments, we kind of gravitated toward progressive rock. Since then, I’ve always had that prog rock mentality, no matter what band I was in. Creating The Truth Council in 2019 was culmination of those times. I came up with the name for the band. I wanted something that wasn’t used by anyone else and could be ambiguous .

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

They can take whatever they want away from it. Some songs are open to different interpretation and some songs are clear stories.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

The Truth Council is first and foremost a Rock band. We have elements of Progressive and Metal mixed in. We even have a song with a Latin bridge in the middle.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Wow, this is a tough one. We’re all big Dream Theater fans, so just being able to watch them every night would be cool. Brock and I are big Haken fans, so that would be cool. Queensryche would be special too.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

This is gonna sound weird but Covid was GREAT for us. We rehearsed a lot and wrote a lot.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Rock?

Rock is in a spot right now. There are a lot of good new bands that are trying to find their footing but the industry itself makes it hard.

7. What's the current music scene like there in Illinois?

Like everywhere, tribute/cover bands rule the land. There is a ton of Central Illinois talent doing original music, it's just a struggle to find venues and $$.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

It’s never enough.

9. What’s next for The Truth Council?

We are getting ready to release our new EP in February called The Perfect Wheel.

10. Any shoutouts?

We’d like to thank you Mike for this opportunity.
