Sounds like: Metal

1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Ophiuchus” and is there any meaning behind it?

Each of us grew up around heavier types of music here in Los Angeles weather it be from older siblings, parents or friends it just became our favorite type of music. As we got older we got more involved in the scene playing in bands and backyards. In 2008 we decided to start a band that we would like to see on stage and that’s how our sound started to develop. As for the name when we were at the stage naming the band we wanted to name it something different and shy away from generic Thrash band names. Mike was looking through a book with Greek mythology and astronomy and came across the name “Ophiuchus” and the rest is history.

2. What do you want listeners to take away from your "Welcome To The Machine" album? How has the response been to it thus far?

We put a lot of time and thought in writing our music and we’d like them to walk away feeling like they just listened to an amazing album that their going to put on their personal playlist or tell their friends about it. Since the date of it’s release we have got nothing but kind words from supporters and fans which we are really grateful for.

3. What can you tell us about new music?

We are currently working on new material for our second album and hopefully we’ll start the recording process by the end of this year.

4. What can people expect from your live show?

People can expect that it will be an extremely high-energy performance with the music being delivered hard fast and heavy.

5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Three bands that we would like to go on tour with would have to be Testament, Exodus, and Warbringer.

6. Any crazy show stories?

Well one of the craziest things would be the time we opened up on Mayhem Fest. 2014 just the crowed reaction alone was surreal one of our loudest crowd’s yet.

7. What’s your take on the current state of metal?

It's obvious it’s not in the same type of media spotlight that it was 30 years ago. But it’s still thriving. With so many sub-genres I feel like there’s something for everyone no matter your taste is. Metal fans are some of the most passionate and loyal fans out there, whether there young or old they keep it alive.

8. What’s the current music scene like there in the California both locally and state wide?

Locally there is areas around Los Angeles where the scene is really strong like Hollywood. Along the sunset strip with great shows at the Whisky a Go Go, House of Blues, and the Viper room. Statewide here in California I feel like the Metal scene is real strong it’s always been pretty good up north in the Bay Area to down here in Los Angeles and currently with the growing metal scene in San Diego where we’ve always got a great response.

9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?

Legal downloads is just a part of the times we live in and has become a big way people get their music. As for illegal downloads is a tough topic, musicians want to get their music out there, yeah. But they also spend lots of time, effort and money to make these albums and for someone not to get paid for there hard work is a shame.

10. What’s next for Ophiuchus?

Bigger shows, bigger tours, and more Albums.

11. Any shoutouts?

We’d like to give a shout out all people who have supported us over the years new and old.
