-Interview- (8/7/23)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Distorted Model" and is there any meaning behind it?

Well three of us had been in various bands over the years and we all eventually crossed paths and ended up being in bands with each other until we finally all came together as one in this band. That is all apart from Ginny who had never been in any bands or anything before but when we heard her sing we instantly knew she was going to be great and so there was no hesitation from any of us to bring her in. The development of our sound really came from just having a love of playing and creating, we didn’t really set out with a particular sound in mind or a specific genre, although of course our influences played a huge part in shaping how we would sound so it was very natural and felt very free which is the way it should be.

Our name Distorted Model came from the idea that we all born into and grow up into this model or version of how we should live, be and act but that actually that isn’t right at all and is a very distorted reality and far from the truths of the real world and how people live and so should be challenged.

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

Enjoyment is without doubt the biggest thing we want people to take from our music, there is nothing better than hearing someone has connected with your tunes and that they mean something to them so that is what we want more than anything.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

We are a blend of Dreampop, Shoegaze and Indie and that is down to a vast range of influences.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

Difficult one to answer this as it’s hard to get it down to just three but I think it would have to be Softcult, Alvvays and Ride.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

Not too badly to be honest we used it to our advantage and wrote a lot of tunes remotely and sent them to each other and worked them all out before going into the studio. But of course you can’t beat all being in the same room and that connection to make the tunes really come to life.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Dreampop?

We think it is in a great place at the moment and it seems as if there is a new resurgence for the genre and bands currently and previously making this kind of music which is truly inspiring and great, especially for us, the more dreampop the better!

7. What's the current music scene like there in the UK?

At the moment we can see a shift where Guitar bands and Guitar music seem to just be on the verge of a come back (which is what we are hoping for) as for the past few years it has been very bland music dominating the charts and local scenes in our opinion.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

We think it is disgusting to be honest with you these huge corporations ripping off all musicians and making millions whilst the artist are making next to nothing just isn’t right and needs to change.

9. What's next for Distorted Model?

Next for us is to release another single early next year as we’ve just released our debut EP and then prepare for live dates that we are looking at sorting out soon (These were put on hold as our singer Ginny has just become a mother and our Lead Guitarist Scott just became a Father in March) We have also begun writing for the second EP so are looking forward to getting underway with this and getting in the studio and hitting that record button again.

10. Any shoutouts?

Shout out to anyone who is listening to our music and buying it and any one who supports us.
