Haivyn

Haivyn (Progressive Rock) - California

Coming at you from all angles, all perspectives of the Rock genres, exploding in combinations that will hit all emotions. You will literally have no clue what is next until the next song shocks your expectations. Haivyn’s songs and styles can be unique and not just another rock project where you can identify exactly who the band is into. Experimenting with multiple combinations of Punk through Grunge, Alternative to Metal plus many surprises, the end result is theatrical and torrid. Haivyn will make you wonder and feed your imagination of what one group can do and how they came up with their sounds. Elegantly blending tempos, instruments, and voices, Haivyn isn’t afraid to try something outside the box and doesn’t let itself be defined by one single genre. Vocals and instrumentation are all rock-solid, alternative, progressive and appealing. You will literally see in your mind what you hear when you listen to Haivyn. Haivyn is on to something here.

Some might say she is intimidating, and others admiringly call her the perfect example of a strong rock femme. Denise Joy’s booming bravado voice reminiscent of a punk-coated Janis switches on a dime to a clean powerful, yet feminine and uplifting tone that lathers listeners. Denise's octave range is self-created. As a kid, Mariah Carey Karaoke was her vocal coach. She gives this credit for her ability to reach her high angelic notes. Denise's lyrical writing style reflects real-life stories written from a common denominator view. Her lyrics are what deeply connect her to fans. Each song experienced and delivered with tailor-made messaging personalized for its specific listener. As dark as some songs might sound to the ear, listeners receive Denise’s innate nurturing way that lifts them up and gets them thinking. Her love of sound shows with how her voice dances or holds steady within the music, sometimes following, sometimes not.

What exactly is Dave doing with that guitar sound and how did he come up with those out of bound ideas? He plays with no traditional rule breaking, breaking the rules of ‘Breaking the Rules’. Live shows always end with the question from some musician in the crowd asking, ‘How did you come up with that?’ ‘Who are your influences?’ The influences are everything from sounds from a Godzilla Movie to a Horror flick type noise, to imagined hip hop samples and tweaks, and a blender full of all rock progressions.

Dustin would eventually replace former drummers and step in right where they left off. Dustin added an entirely new level of power and followed through with Haivyn’s formula to interweave music styles. His ability to enhance the song, the vocals, and instrumentation makes him the perfect ingredient.

Mario on the bass brings tone and dynamic to compliment the sound of Haivyn. Never afraid to experiment with musical direction he pushes the limits of various influences with no apologies. A mad hatter unleashed on stage is what can best describe how he gallivants the stage. What will he do next?

L.A. raised; HAIVYN is a female fronted Progressive Rock Band. Playing with multiple combinations of Punk through Grunge, Alternative to Metal, plus some surprises. "The Man Who Sold the World" Single Review
The track begins right away with a bouncy sound that gets the blood flowing from the first note. The melodic vocals take hold in the first verse as it puts its own twist on the classic track. The guitars are on point and the melodies soar with confidence as it treads its own path. The true talents of Haivyn come out to shine bright as the track hits its full stride. The ending of the track features the haunting outro as it completes the cover in grand style.

Verdict:
Haivyn unleashes their own awe-inspiring rendition of the classic David Bowie track.

-Interview- (9/23/23)
1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name "Haivyn" and is there any meaning behind it?

We all have our individual stories of how we started with music, but the ultimate point of that story is that we love to write music and perform. The name Haivyn literally doesn't mean anything. It's just a word we created that could basically only mean our band. There are some setbacks to that name because folks tend to search for the proper spelling of that pronunciation which is Haven. Fortunately, once you hear about us, you remember H.A.I.V.Y.N. .. Funny, over the years, if you search HAIVYN, you will find bikini lines and a bunch of kids named Haivyn. We like to pretend to take credit for them lol j/k!!

2. What do you want people to take away from your music?

An experience of all emotions. We strive to give theatrical shows that induce every emotion you can have. Most importantly, all emotions lead to a release of excitement and that's our goal.

3. How would you describe your sound to the average listener?

The average listener will probably hear rock music with a memorable female vocalist and non-traditional bridges in the songs. It's sad but the average person won't get into something unless it's already noted as pop culture. No one wants to be the first person to discover something anymore, they just want to fit into a preexisting thing.

4. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?

That's an endless list. We've performed with many big bands during their primes and bands that have kept their nostalgia.

5. How has Covid affected what you do?

INot much, during the peak of the pandemic, we took the time to record and found areas in the California deserts that kept their doors open to perform and meet amazing people who were happy to be out having a great time. We actually did a pretty good interview in 2020 about this. It's available on our YouTube profile.

6. What’s your take on the current state of Alternative Rock?

Not sure, I think followers and numbers matter more than quality nowadays. I'm sure we're not 100% right about that, but it does play a factor.

7. What's the current music scene like there in California?

It literally depends on where you are in California. A million things can be going on near each other. No different than any other strip.

8. What’s your take on the royalties that streaming services pay out to artists?

Average of 0.08 cents per stream and no one downloads anymore. Pretty self-explanatory. We always say, that if you are a musical artist for an income, you better have a day job too lol.

9. What's next for Haivyn?

Whatever happens. We're open to anything that is exciting and working with those with vision. We are always recording, performing, and writing. Maybe more video stuff should be a focus also.

10. Any shoutouts?
